Q. So...what's your name?
A. My name is Alan Horne.
Q. Well, why not just call the site www.AlanHorne.com
A. Another Alan Horne beat me to it. Besides, there is also a popular
minor league baseball player named Alan Horne, and I don't want to confuse
people. Aside from that, there is also Alan Horn, CEO of Warner Bros. And
Alan.com is actually owned by Alan Colmes (they guy that used to be Sean Hannity's
sidekick/archnemesis). So it seems as if the forces of this world have conspired
to keep my real name from becoming my domain name. But that's fine, because I
really like how the site turned out.
Q. So, can I read your books?
A. Only if you are a literary agent or publisher. I'm not spilling the
beans to just anyone who wanders into the site. If you are an agent or work
with a publishing house, you will probably hear from me sooner or later.
Q. Can't you at least post a synopsis?
A. I prefer the books to speak for themselves. There is a brief summary
of book one on the Books in the Series page, but I've kept
it fairly innocuous. In short: I have plenty of alpha readers already, but thanks
for asking.
Q. I am a literary agent and/or publisher, might I get some materials from you?
A. If you really are an agent or editor, you'll understand why I approach your offer
with some skepticism. I may be wrong, but I've never heard of editors spending their days
combing the internet, looking for websites of aspiring authors just so that they can
solicit them. Still, if against probability you are a legit agent/editor who
just happened to wander onto the site and like what you see, email me at
alanhorne@keyersofbryce.com
and I will be thrilled to send you anything you request...after you tell me
who you are, what agency/publisher you work for, and your email address.
If the information checks out, and the email address you give me is the same one
posted on your official website, I will jump through hoops for you. If not, then
I will ignore your request.
Q. How do I contact you?
A. My professional email address is
alanhorne@keyersofbryce.com. Please direct
all inquiries there. If you are a credible publisher/agent and want to contact me
personally, send an email and I will give you my phone number. Keep in mind that
this is a business email address. I expect only emails about the books or website
(but it doesn't have to be super important. If you just want to say "I like your
website," I consider that a legitimate reason to email me). Prank emails, spam, viruses,
chain letters, etc. will get you banned from the site. To my friends and family who may
be reading this, my personal email address hasn't changed. Use that one.
