About the Series

The Keyer Series consists of four books, two of which are written. They are not the only books I am working on, but they are the only ones I am currently endeavoring to publish. In my opinion, they are my best work, and I believe they are a good starting point in becoming an author.

The setting is contemporary. Every page takes place in the early 21st century, and the first book is partially set in Seattle, Washington, and partially set in Bryce Canyon, Utah.

Genre

When first imagining these books, I wanted to create something fairly original. An avid fantasy fan, I wanted to tell a story that involved supernatural elements. But the last thing I wanted was to reinvent the wheel. There are hundreds of quality epic fantasies and urban fantasies out there. The Keyer Series is neither of those. If I had to describe it in one phrase, I would say that these books are "Indiana-Jones-style adventure meets X-Men-style fantasy." The magic system of my books is based on archaeology and ancient artifacts, and yet the main characters each have a set of unique powers. Target age group is YA. Target gender demographic is predominantly male.

Plot of Book 1

I'll start by warning you that I am going to be deliberately vague. In-depth synopses will be sent to legitimate agents and editors upon request. This book is about people who obtain supernatural powers from ancient sources. In this story (as well as in the real world) there are good archaeologists and evil archaeologists. And then there are plain old artifact smugglers. Artifact smuggling is, in reality, the third most prevalent form of illegal trafficking in the world (after drugs and guns). In this book, one evil archaeologist and a group of professional artifact smugglers abduct three young people who have strange powers. The abductors take these young people to Bryce Canyon, in Southern Utah, and force them to take part in an ancient ritual that supposedly grants unlimited power. In order for this to work, the three youths are forced to fight each other in the canyon. While two of them are hesitant to become combatants, the third likes the idea of seizing power for himself, and will not hesitate to kill the others if it will help him win.
