I've learned not to post sensitive information on the internet. You'll have to excuse me for not displaying my birthday, my hometown, or anything like that on this page.
But there's more to me than just my ID, so I am happy to tell you all that I can about myself.
I am a computer programmer living in Utah. I love stories, and writing books makes me happy. I am interested in many different genres, but I particularly love intelligent fantasy that strives to be original.
You might not know this, but Utah is actually a great place to live for people who enjoy science fiction and fantasy books. A lot of well known and well compensated authors either live in Utah or are associated with places in Utah (particularly Brigham Young University). Go figure. But living here makes it particulary easy to read local authors, and I do. So I read a lot of books by Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, Larry Correia, James Dashner and others. I also enjoy out-of-towners like Terry Pratchett, J.K. Rowling, Eoin Colfer and Dan Brown. I also try to read at least one classic each year (some I have enjoyed, others not so much, but I make sure to finish them anyway).
In my own writing, I favor fantasy. But, as in my reading, I strive to tell stories that are intelligent and that break the mold to a degree.
The book for which this website is named, The Keyers of Bryce Canyon, is a good example of this. It is archaeological fantasy based partly in mythology and world religion. It took a fair amount of research to put this book together, and it incorporates actual places and practices into its storyline.
Some of my other books fall into science fiction, superhero fantasy, and paranormal categories. But I always strive for intelligence, well-stuctured plot, and interesting characters.
Like most writers, a lot of what I create is taken from my own experience. In my case, there have been a lot of strange experiences in a number of interesting places.
I am a world traveler. I have been to Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tahiti, Jamaica, Columbia, Costa Rica, Panama, Israel, Ireland, England, and a bunch of other places. I have also seen a lot of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Mostly this happened because my father was an airline pilot and my parents believed in showing their children the entire spread of the globe. There has been a lot of exotic food and a lot of beaches and a lot of ancient architecture in my life, and I feel like some of it has crept into my writing.
I got my scuba certification on the Great Barrier Reef. I also am in the process of getting my pilot's license (though there have been a few snags along that road lately). I love the canyonlands of Utah, particularly Bryce Canyon, and if The Keyers of Bryce Canyon ever gets published, I hope it will broaden awareness of this great national park.
My favorite food is curry, and I enjoy many different varieties of it, but usually I crave Japanese-style curry for its salty zest.
I do like computer programming, but writing books is my true calling in life. I look forward to the day that my books get published and I can start sharing my stories with the whole world. If you would like to get to know me better, drop me a line on the Contact Me page.
