I was born on November 3, 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah. I attended high school at East High in Salt Lake City, which is where I learned that I loved to write. I began to practice writing during this period. However, there wasn't much creative writing taught in the English classes at East, so I had to keep my writing on the side. Also during this time, I procured an internship at the University of Utah, where I did research on the Major Histocompatibility complex in mammals. After High School, I originally planned to jump straight into college, but on the second day of school of my first semester, I was invited to do volunteer work for two years. I suspended my enrollment without hesitation. Upon my return to college, my roommate, Jared, encouraged me to write a book based on a story I told him. That was how The Keyers of Bryce Canyon came to be. It took about a month to put to paper. The second book, which was much longer, took about a year to write (inbetween classes and homework). But by the end of 2007, The Plain of Shinar was completed. In 2008, I met Brandon Sanderson, a professional author that I had not heard of at the time. He was lecturing a group of aspiring authors, and I learned a lot by listening to him...covertly. I pretty much had my ear pressed to the door of the room where he was teaching. But I listened for hours. He was the first full-time author I ever came in contact with, and I was impressed by his story, his attitude, and his outlook. I learned a lot, and it was after that experience that I began my attempts to get published. Today, I am a computer programmer. But tomorrow, I hope to be a full-time author. Knowing this, it's not hard to understand why I run a website about books I've written.
